"A beautiful day with a stop by the seaside village of Bamburgh and views of Bamburgh Castle. Our tour guide Gill was very knowledgeable about local and national history, local areas of interest and a great deal of fun."

Itinerary

We leave Edinburgh in the morning and head south to the Borders. On the way to England you will see the gently rolling hills and dramatic coastlines of East Lothian. Our first stop is the beautiful coastal village Bamburgh. Take a stroll to the stunning beach and view the dramatic 5th century Bamburgh Castle* sitting on a natural throne of volcanic rock.

In the afternoon we will meet the star of the show, Alnwick Castle. There is lots to do here; admire large stately rooms and beautiful architecture or learn a little about all the popular films and TV shows that have been filmed here.

After spending time in Alnwick, we make our way back over the border and into Scotland. On our drive home we’ll entertain you with tales of the turbulent past before arriving into Edinburgh early evening.

* We do not access the interior of Bamburgh Castle. You will have sufficient time to explore the village of Bamburgh and take a walk along the beach, with breath-taking views of Bamburgh Castle never far from sight.

ALNWICK CASTLE

Reserve at the time of booking.

The magnificent Alnwick castle was built 950 years ago. Its purpose was to control the perilous borders between Scotland and England but now it’s renowned for more than bloody history. The art collection is unrivalled and the rooms are some of the finest examples of 19th-century Italianate design.
