DAY 1: Edinburgh to Loch Ness

We depart Edinburgh at 8.30am and cross the Forth Road Bridge on our way to picturesque Dunkeld with its historic Cathedral. We stop at the Highland Folk Museum to step back in time and experience life in the Highlands from 1700s to the 1950s. Learn the fascinating story that inspired Outlander at Culloden Battlefield and embark on your own journey through the stones at Clava Cairns. Continuing on through Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, we follow the entire length of Loch Ness for a glimpse of the mysterious creature “Nessie”. Our home for the night is the quaint village of Fort Augustus where you can relax by the shores of Loch Ness or visit a local pub for a hot drink or something stronger. (Overnight: Fort Augustus)

DAY 2: Isle of Skye

Today we have time to explore Isle of Skye, famously known as the ‘Misty Isle’: a must-see destination that will make you fall in love with Scotland’s Inner Hebrides. Expect ancient castles, breath-taking views, and faerie stories aplenty. Home to the famous MacLeod and MacDonald Clans, your Guide will recount Celtic myths and Viking legends from the past millennia. 

We journey along stunning coastlines and drive through dramatic mountain ranges, including the striking Cuillin Mountains, Old Man of Storr, and Kilt Rock with its cascading waterfall. We pass iconic Eilean Donan Castle, said to be the most photographed castle in Scotland, before arriving back to Fort Augustus for the night. (Overnight: Fort Augustus)

DAY 3: Loch Ness to Edinburgh

Leaving the Great Glen, we bid farewell to Loch Ness and pass under the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. Our journey takes us south through the awe-inspiring landscape of Glen Coe, a scenic landmark of history, wildlife, and myth. Used as a backdrop in Skyfall and the Harry Potter movies, Glen Coe is often recalled as Scotland’s most famous glen. 

Drive through one of the last remaining wildernesses in Europe when we cross the Rannoch Moor, a vast stretch of land that will reveal a little more of Scotland’s diverse terrain. Heading past Stirling, we visit the scene of some of Scotland’s most famous battles in the Wars of Independence and hear of local legends such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. We make our final stop at the majestic Kelpies, the world’s largest equine sculptures, designed by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott. After a fabulous three-day adventure, we arrive back to Edinburgh at approximately 5.00pm.

3* Bed & Breakfast (B&B) / Guest House

In most cases you are staying in a B&B (Bed and Breakfast), which is renowned for offering visitors a warm Highland welcome. Most B&Bs offer a traditional Scottish cooked breakfast and is included in the price. On occasion, you are staying with a family who let out rooms in their home to visitors, giving you the opportunity of experiencing Scotland in a more authentic way. B&B’s and guest houses are both generally located within one mile of the centre of town, although during peak season, this distance may be slightly further.
