Sustainable Travel Experiences in Scotland

Make Travel Matter at Highland Explorer Tours

MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences are conscious travel experiences offered on our tours. They are chosen with great care based on the positive environmental or social impact they have on Scotland's communities and those who experience them.

How are MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experiences chosen?

Using our Make Travel Matter E-Assessment, travel experiences will be rated against a set of robust criteria, selected from the Global Indicator Framework for the Global Goals, in order to identify the ways in which they advance the 11 Global Goals that our sustainability strategy prioritises.

Our MAKE TRAVEL MATTER®  Experiences

Here are some of our unique MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experiences you can do on our trips to support People, Planet, and Wildlife:

The Sleat Communty Trust Volunteer Experience

We have partnered with the Sleat Community Trust to help transform Tormore Forest through tree planting, path building, and repair on our 5-day Isle of Skye Volunteer Adventure. The Sleat Community Trust is a recognised Scottish charity supporting sustainable economic, environmental and social development in the Sleat Peninsula on the Isle of Skye.

The Gaelic language college Sabhal Mòr Ostaig

On Our 5-day Isle of Skye Volunteer Adventure we get the chance to experience a tutoring taster session at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture on the Isle of Skye. Founded in 1973 in the old farm steadings at Ostaig, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig promotes the revitalisation of the Gaelic language and culture through world-class education, research, training and economic opportunities. Today, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the biggest employer of Scottish Gaelic speakers in the world.
