The TreadRight Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation created as a joint initiative by Highland Explorer Tours and our sister brands under The Travel Corporation (TTC). TreadRight’s mission is clear; to have a positive impact on the people and communities we visit, to protect wildlife and marine life, and to care for the planet we call home.

TreadRight has supported over 60 sustainable tourism projects worldwide to date. Support is provided through donations and grants to leading partners across the sustainable travel spectrum. These projects all fall under the three pillars of TreadRight: Planet, People, Wildlife.

Planet

Sustainability and conservation: ensuring that we’re protecting our invaluable landscapes and natural resources.

Reducing the environmental impact of our business isn’t just a “nice-to-have” for us, it’s at the core of all that we do. Together with The Travel Corporation (TTC), we’ve committed to eliminating all avoidable single-use plastics in both our offices and out on the road by 2022.

Our fleet of coaches are some of the most efficient in Europe, thanks to the technology of the Euro 6 engine. All of this, while supporting projects striving to keep our oceans and coastlines clean, are just some of the ways we’ve committed to safeguarding the future of our planet.

People

Cultural preservation: ensuring that the true economic benefit of travel is felt by local communities.

At TreadRight, we are committed to encouraging the cultures, traditions and arts of the communities we visit to thrive. We seek to enable these communities to see the true benefit from tourism through economic empowerment. We do this through our support of micro-enterprises, and community-based tourism initiatives that build positive futures for community members and their families.

Wildlife

Protection of our world’s wildlife: while advocating for the highest standard of ethical wildlife experiences.

The world’s wildlife population is balancing on a dangerous precipice, so it is our responsibility to protect those species most at risk. Partnering with leading wildlife organisations, we work to protect and rehabilitate elephant, rhino and big cat populations around the world, while also educating our guests on ethical wildlife experiences.

As part of TreadRight and TTC’s continuing journey to encourage the ethical treatment of animals by the travel industry, TreadRight has updated our Animal Welfare Policy for all wildlife experiences offered byTTC’s family of brands.
